New cars by rail: LTG Cargo Polska transports consignment of new KIA cars

2025-07-03

LTG Cargo Polska has implemented a special project to transport almost 230 new KIA vehicles from Slovakia to Lithuania via Poland, intended for the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian markets.

“Car manufacturers are turning more and more to rail as a sustainable mode of transport where large volumes of cars can be moved in a relatively short time without the need for dozens of trucks and drivers. Working together with partners, LTG Cargo Polska is able to offer our customers high quality and fast project transport services,” says Laimonas Nekrošius, President of LTG Cargo Polska.

It is estimated that around 30 special vehicle transporters would be needed to carry this number of cars, forming a convoy of almost 2 km on the road.

The nineteen-car train transported cars from KIA’s factory in Žilina, Slovakia, to its final destination in Kaunas, Lithuania, covering a total distance of almost 1,000 km. The largest distance of the journey via Poland was covered by LTG Cargo Polska, the Polish subsidiary of LTG Cargo, a Lithuanian rail freight carrier. AV Terminal handled the unloading and distribution of the cars in the Baltics.

The European rail link from Poland to Kaunas, opened in 2015, enables intermodal and other freight transport to and from Western Europe without having to transfer freight between Poland and Lithuania.

LTG Cargo, the LTG Group’s freight carrier, together with its Polish subsidiary LTG Cargo Polska, is currently engaged in regular intermodal carriage on the Kaunas-Lodz-Duisburg route, and is also expanding the geography of carriage and organising project transport, such as last year’s rail transport from Austria.

LTG Cargo Polska started operations in Poland in 2020 with the aim of strengthening logistics supply chains and improving freight mobility between Lithuania and Poland and Western Europe.
