New LTG Cargo Polska pocket wagons arrived for the Kaunas–Łódź–Duisburg route

2026-04-10

LTG Cargo Polska has introduced the new recently purchased wagons: 72 pocket wagons are designed to transport semi-trailers on the European gauge (1,435 mm) from Kaunas to Duisburg (Germany) with a stop at the major Polish logistics hub in Łódź.

The 72 new railcars were manufactured last year by the Bulgarian company Kolowag specifically for LTG Cargo Polska. These European-gauge railcars are specially designed for intermodal transport: standard semi-trailers can be quickly and easily loaded onto them without the need for special securing, so intermodal trains consisting can be quickly prepared for the journey.

“LTG Cargo Polska places a strong emphasis on operational efficiency and improving customer experience. The new pocket wagons will ensure the reliability of the transport services. We believe that both we and our customers will benefit from this purchase,” says Laimonas Nekrošius, president of LTG Cargo Polska.

The project “Purchase of 72 wagons for intermodal connections” intended for intermodal transport, No. KPOD.09.09-IW.02-0018/24-00″ as part of Investment: E2.1.3. Intermodal transport is co-financed by the European Union in the form of public aid under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The intermodal cargo route from Kaunas to Duisburg was launched in 2022, following the connection of the European standard‑gauge (1,435 mm) line to the Kaunas intermodal terminal. Today, intermodal cargo runs three times per week on this route, which was extended last year to include a stop in Łódź. The one‑way distance totals 1,520 km, with LTG Cargo Polska providing traction for the route through Poland.

LTG Cargo Polska currently employs 130 people and operates a fleet of over 350 European-gauge railcars and 28 locomotives – including Siemens locomotives capable of efficiently transporting cargo on international routes.
