Intermodal transport
Intermodal transport
Intermodal transport is one of the most environmentally friendly and efficient freight transport solutions for those who want to make the most of the advantages of different modes of transport – rail and road.
Semi-trailers or containers are loaded onto a train platform using special equipment and transported by rail. At the end of the rail journey, semi-trailers or containers are transferred back onto trucks at intermodal terminals for door-to-door delivery.

Connecting key terminals across Europe

LTG Cargo Polska connects major intermodal terminals across both East–West and North–South corridors, ensuring flexibility in routing and access to key logistics hubs.
- East–West corridor
Linking the Baltics, Poland and Germany, with further connections to Western Europe - North–South corridor
Connecting inland terminals with major seaports
We operate and support flows to:
- Polish terminals and ports
- Lithuanian terminals and ports
- German terminals and ports (with Single Safety Certificate (SSC) we now officially conduct rail operations in Germany)
- Dutch seaports (via our cross-border capabilities and partner network)
This enables customers to design flexible, multi-directional supply chains, combining inland distribution with maritime logistics. As part of the LTG Cargo Group, we contribute to the development of international intermodal connections across Europe.

Frequently asked questions about intermodal transport
1. Why choose intermodal transport services?
Intermodal rail transport is a way to develop important links between logistics centres without adding to road congestion and contributing to traffic safety. This helps reduce costs, improve transport efficiency, and increase sustainability.
2. What goods can be transported intermodally?
Intermodal transport is open to all cargoes except those that are sanctioned, as well as ADR Class 1 (explosives) and ADR Class 7 (radioactive materials).
3. What is the minimum number of containers/semi-trailers that can be transported?
One or more containers and/or semi-trailers can be carried.
4. What is the maximum permissible weight of a semi-trailer with load?
An intermodal semi-trailer and its load may not exceed 37 tonnes and a non-intermodal semi-trailer 33 tonnes.
5. What is the difference between an intermodal and a non-intermodal semi-trailer?
No additional equipment is needed to load the intermodal semi-trailer onto the wagon. Nikrasa 3.0 special platforms are used to load the non-intermodal semi-trailer.
